Chris has really done it !

I have version 0.5.0 up for download now, give it a try and let me
know how it works for you. It comes with the SOS 1.3 utilities disk.

Welcome news, for sure! Is there a list of changes/updates from 0.4.0
before I can get this on a Mac back at home?

0.5.0 is the first version to run under OS X.
Otherwise it is pretty much the same as 0.4.0.
Not all of the debugging features work, but the
basic emulation seems to. The more people who
beat on it, the better :-)

Still unresolved (from 2001 when I last worked on
it) is Business Basic not running a program. It
does execute single lines at the prompt. Perhaps
I have a memory addressing bug lurking that BB is
bringing out. One thought I had was for someone
with access to a real /// and the programming
tools (Pascal I guess) would be to write some
something to do various addressing tests to see
what bugs remain in that area. I have run the
memory test program, and it doesn't seem to
report any problems. The diagnostics does report
some VIA issues, I suspect with the timers, I
need to re-read the 6522 datasheet and see what I
have done wrong there.

Feature suggestions are also welcome. I'd like to
add copying the screen to the clipboard, and
perhaps something to make disk image management
easier. And see if I can support a larger virtual
proFile drive. I've also begun to think about
emulating a printer and the RS232 device to a
file.

I'm curious whether it would be possible to get
Catalyst (or another such program) to run under
Sara. Then you could create a pre-loaded virtual
proFile image with the various Apple ///
programs, ready for use. I don't know to what
extent copyrights are still an issue.

BOS (Bob's Operating System from WAP) also works quite well on
Sara :-) Great job, Chris! I am steadily trying out software.

Thanks,

Jeff

I've released version 0.5.1 of Sara, the Apple /// emulator:
http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/sara.html

The only change is to allow any file to be selected to be opened as a
disk image, regardless of the creator/type code. It still must be in
DOS ordered format. I can allow other formats, if there is a need.

I'd greatly appreciate feedback on Sara, and suggestions for improvement.

Hi Chris,

Thanks very much for your efforts in this area.

I've played around with earlier versions of your Apple /// emulator, I will
check out your newest version and let you and the others on this list know
the results.

Not a lot of new info, but the /// Cheers! at Call-A.p.p.l.e was new to
me. I finally got info on how to get back to reality after entering the
monitor. That'll save tons of time on the code-fix cycle if I don't
have to reboot every time I break into the monitor to check on memory!
